Earth Day Writing Challenge
February 20 through April 20, Ixonia, WI
This annual contest is a wonderful way for teachers to encourage their students to think more about how we should treat our earth by giving them the chance to write poems or essays on how we can "Work Together to Create a Healthier Tomorrow!" This contest is offered for 3rd and 4th grade students. Students are not required to draw a picture to go along with their poem or essay, but many of them do and it adds a lot to the presentation.
(The following reflects 2020 dates. Information will be updated early 2021 to reflect the new year)
With many opportunities beginning at the middle school level, this gives slightly younger students the chance to use their creative skills combined with deep thinking writing in either the poetry or essay form. Prizes will be monetary, plants to take home, and any students who participate are able to join in the earth day activities (Weekend of April 25th & 26th) free of charge. The AWARDS CEREMONY, where winners will read their selections and claim prizes, will be held SUNDAY APRIL 26th at 1 pm. Entries are due APRIL 20th, with early entries (April 3rd). Teachers who send in entries early will receive an edible garden to grow in their classroom! Send or bring in entries ATTN: Renee Ebert. Contest is ongoing NOW- DUE DATE APRIL 20th! Good luck to all! (Due to the continued outbreak of COVID-19 we will not have an awards ceremony this year)
