Shallots, Organic Growing and Maintenance Tips
Plant each individual bulb root-end down at least 6 inches apart. The top of the shallot should be level with, or slightly beneath the soil surface. Shallots are shallow rooted so proper watering is important. Do not over-water, but do not let them become stressed from lack of moisture. Harvest when ¾ of the plant top dries and falls over. Continue the drying process in a shady location until the tops are completely dry. Store in a single layer, preferably with the tops still attached. Stored properly, shallots will last several months.
